Here is the content of an email I sent earlier today to Arlen Specter (R-PA), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME) in advance of the vote they are anticipated to make on the Senate floor later today…
Subject: Economic Stimulus (Spendulus) Bill
You represent a swing vote on the most socialist legislation since the New Deal. In fact, this legislation makes the New Deal look like a capitalist venture. The problem is that this legislation has very little to do with economic stimulus. It does, however, have everything to do with power. Liberals want to create a bureaucratic socialist state that they rule by implementing every entitlement that they have ever considered in their wildest dreams, thus solidifying their position as the savior to the non-productive class, ever increasing in population, assuring themselves power for decades. Please explain to me how this is going to create jobs in the next few months… ever?
This attitude flies in the face of patriotism and the principles set forth by the founding fathers. You are NOT a patriot if you vote for this bill in its current form. There are no quick fixes to this economy and this bill will do little to that which would be accomplished by leaving everything alone and letting natural selection sort everything out (resourceful, solvent companies will survive and non-resourceful, insolvent ones will fail). It does, however, stand a very high probability of creating bureaucracy and government control that may never be able to be undone. We need immediate solutions which will empower corporate America and the working class, not long term increased spending. When has increased government spending ever improved an economy (and don’t tell me the New Deal, because all you need to do is look at the numbers to see that the Great Depression truly ended when World War II began – capitalism to the rescue).
You stand on the precipice looking into the abyss. You can either choose to jump along with the other Obama following lemmings and drag the rest of the electorate with you or you can step back and ponder the creation of a job bridge which will stimulate economic recovery and growth. Your place in history will be established by the decision you make on the floor of the Senate today. Choose wisely, for your sake and for that in the overwhelming best interest of the millions of hard-working Americans who employ you and whom you were elected to represent.
Thank You,
Greg Garrett
